The short answer

Fire features are built-in fire pits, fire tables and fire bowls that give a backyard warmth, light and a place to gather after sunset. CoastLife Pools builds wood and gas fire pits and fire bowls across the Treasure Coast, including fire and water pairings on the pool edge, with gas lines planned and permitted during construction so nothing is trenched through a finished deck later.

Types of Fire Features

Gas Fire Pits
Switch-on flame, clean burn and no ash. The easy choice near the house and pool deck.
Wood-Burning Fire Pits
Real crackle and smell for yards with room to spare from the house and furniture.
Fire Bowls
Gas burners in decorative bowls on walls or the pool edge, often paired with water features.
Fire Tables
Fire at dining or lounge height, built into the seating area.
Fire Beside the Kitchen
A fire feature planned alongside an outdoor kitchen on the same gas line.
Lit and Automated
Fire, lighting and water features scheduled together through pool automation.

Gas or Wood?

Gas is the usual choice near a pool and the house, for good reasons, but wood still has a place in the right yard.

Fire and Water

Fire bowls set on a raised wall or the coping, reflected in the pool, are one of the most striking things a backyard can do at dusk. The effect depends on planning: the gas supply, the wall that carries the bowls, the water feature beside them and the lighting that takes over after dark all have to be drawn together.

That is why fire features belong in the first pool design when possible. Gas and electric go in once, before pavers go down, and you see the whole evening scene in the 3D design before anything is built.

Placement and Safety

  1. Open air only. fire features belong outside screen enclosures and away from overhead cover.
  2. Clearance. room from the house, furniture, landscaping and walkways, more for wood than gas.
  3. Wind. placed for the prevailing breeze so smoke and heat move away from seating and the house.
  4. Seating. close enough to feel the warmth, with a clear path around the fire.
  5. Permitted gas work. gas lines are run, permitted and inspected, never improvised.

Fire Feature Questions

Should I choose a gas or wood fire pit?
Gas starts with a switch, burns clean and suits pool decks and patios near the house. Wood gives real crackle and smell but produces smoke and embers, so it needs more room from the house and furniture. We build both and help you pick for your yard and how you will use it.
What are fire bowls?
Fire bowls are gas burners set in decorative bowls, usually on raised walls or the pool edge. Paired with water features or the pool, they create a fire and water effect at dusk.
Can a gas fire feature be added to an existing yard?
Usually. The gas line has to reach it, so we plan the route to disturb as little finished deck and landscaping as possible. Adding it during a pool build or remodel is the cheapest moment.
Can I have a fire pit inside my screen enclosure?
We do not recommend open flame under a screen enclosure. Fire features belong in the open air, with clearance from structures, screens and overhead cover.
Do fire features need a permit?
Gas lines involve permits and inspections, and many communities have HOA rules about fire features. We check the requirements for your address and handle the permitted work.
Can fire features be controlled from my phone?
Many gas fire features can be tied into pool automation alongside lights and water features, so the whole evening scene comes on together.

We build fire pits and fire features across Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound, Sewall's Point, Port St. Lucie, Tradition, Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. We also take on select projects in other counties. If you are not sure we cover your area, just ask.
