The short answer

Pool equipment upgrades replace the pump, filter, heater, lights or controls at your equipment pad with newer, more efficient gear. The biggest win is usually a variable-speed pump, which federal efficiency rules now make the standard replacement, followed by automation and LED lighting. CoastLife Pools installs most upgrades in a day and, as a Jandy and AquaCal dealer, handles warranties in house.

What We Upgrade

Variable-Speed Pumps
Efficiency rules now make them the standard replacement. Quieter, and they cut the pump's power draw dramatically.
Automation & App Control
Pumps, heat, lights and features from your phone. Schedules that actually stick.
LED Lighting
Color scenes, a fraction of the wattage, and bulbs that outlast the old halogens by years. See outdoor lighting.
Heaters & Heat Pumps
Swim season year-round. Sizing matters more than brand: see heat pumps.
Salt Conversion
Softer water and simpler chemistry. Full details on the salt systems page.
Filters & Plumbing at the Pad
Right-sized filters and cleaner plumbing runs so the new pump is not fighting the old layout.

The Pump Rule, in Plain English

Federal efficiency standards for pool pumps, in force since 2021, effectively ended the era of the cheap single-speed pump. Most residential pool pumps sold today have to meet efficiency levels that, in practice, mean a variable-speed pump, and Florida's building code points the same direction for replacements.

If your pool still runs an old single-speed pump, the day it fails is not a like-for-like swap. It is an upgrade. The good news is that the upgrade pays you back every month in lower electricity use, and a newer pump is noticeably quieter. The full explanation is in our article on Florida's energy-saving pool pump rules.

Buying a home with a pool? The age of the pad belongs in your negotiation; a certified pool inspection dates every component.

How an Upgrade Works

  1. Look at the whole pad. pump, filter, heater, lights and controls, their age and condition, so you do not replace one part into a system that fights it.
  2. Size to the pool. new equipment is matched to your pool volume, plumbing and features, not simply to what was there before.
  3. Install, usually in a day. most pump, light and automation upgrades are finished in one visit.
  4. Program and walk through. schedules and speeds are set, the app is connected, and we show you how it all works.
  5. Register warranties. as a Jandy and AquaCal dealer we register equipment and handle claims in house.

Upgrading during a remodel is the cheapest moment; the crew is already at the pad. Something broken rather than old? That's a repair call.

Equipment Upgrade Questions

Do I have to replace my old pump with a variable-speed pump?
In practice, usually yes. Federal efficiency standards in force since 2021 mean most residential pool pumps sold today are variable-speed, and Florida code points the same way for replacements. When an old single-speed pump dies, the replacement is an upgrade, not a like-for-like swap.
Why is a variable-speed pump cheaper to run?
Most of a pool day does not need full speed. A variable-speed pump runs long and slow for filtration and speeds up only for cleaning, heating or features, which draws far less power than a single-speed motor at full speed all day.
What does pool automation do?
It puts the pump, heater or heat pump, lights and features on schedules and on your phone. Schedules actually stick, and you can heat the spa or turn on the lights from anywhere.
Are LED pool lights worth it?
Yes. LEDs use a fraction of the wattage of old halogen and incandescent pool lights, last years longer, and most offer color scenes that work with automation.
Do you handle equipment warranties?
Yes. We are Jandy and AquaCal dealers and handle warranty claims in house, so you call us rather than the manufacturer. AquaCal heat pumps we install carry two years of parts and labor, plus a third year when connected to the PoolSync app.
Can you upgrade equipment on a pool you did not build?
Yes. Most of the equipment we upgrade is on pools someone else built. We size new equipment to your pool, not to the old pad.
When is the best time to upgrade?
During a remodel, because the crew is already at the pad, or when a key part fails and you are replacing it anyway. Something broken rather than old is a repair call; we will tell you which it is.

We upgrade pool equipment across Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound, Sewall's Point, Port St. Lucie, Tradition, Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. We also take on select projects in other counties. If you are not sure we cover your area, just ask.
