A waterfront yard built on two levels: an upper pool beside the house with a raised glass tile spa, and a long lower pool a few steps down, joined by a tiled wall and a run of stepping pads. Fire and water bowls mark the corners, and a sunken lounge with a fire table sits at the water end.
What we built
- Upper pool beside the house with a raised glass tile spa
- Long lower pool, a few steps down
- Iridescent glass tile wall and stepping pads between the two
- Fire and water bowls on stacked stone pedestals
- Sunken lounge with a fire table and built-in beverage refrigerators
- Pool, step and deck lighting
Two levels, one view
The house sits above the water, so the yard steps down toward it. The upper pool and spa are on the terrace outside the doors. The lower pool runs alongside, one level down, with a putting green between it and the seawall.
From the terrace, the sight line runs over both pools and out to the docks and open water.
Stepping pads between the pools
The wall of the upper pool is faced in iridescent glass tile and drops straight into the lower pool. A row of stone pads runs along its base, just above the water, so you walk the length of the lower pool on what looks like floating stone.
Lighting under the pads and along the wall picks out each one after dark.

A glass tile spa
The spa stands in the upper pool, raised above the water and wrapped on every face in iridescent glass tile, including the top. Water spills over its edges back into the pool.
The same tile runs along the waterline, so the colour carries around the whole pool.

Fire and water bowls
Square pedestals faced in stacked stone stand at the pool corners. Each carries a bowl that holds a gas flame and sends a stream of water into the pool below it.
Seen from the house, the bowls frame the view of the water.

The sunken fire lounge
At the water end, steps lead down into a sunken lounge set below the level of the pool. Built-in bench seating wraps a rectangular fire table, and glass-front beverage refrigerators are built into the wood-clad wall under the pool edge.
Strip lighting runs under each step and bench, and marker lights are set into the deck along the path beside it.

Lit for the evening
The photos were taken at dusk with everything switched on. Blue LED lighting in both pools and the spa, the flames in the bowls, and the lighting under the steps and pads are all on in these photos.
